Surrey in the wintertime is a magical place. A network of off-road trails meander through forests and heaths, taking us to breathtaking viewpoints and charming villages. Not far from London, the Surrey Hills offer a perfect getaway amid the beauty of the English countryside.

On a crisp frosty day, we enjoy the stunning views and dramatic sights of nature. On a wet day, we have fun splashing in puddles and rediscovering the childlike joy of playing in the mud.

And whatever the weather, we always love an excuse for mid-ride hot chocolate – then, when the riding’s done,  maybe lunch or a pint in front of the roaring open fire of a cosy country pub.

Marmalade’s new Surrey Hills Winter Warmer is all about enjoying this unique environment at a relaxed pace, where the focus is on relaxation and soaking up the sights, sounds and smells of nature.

Bike hire and guidance

This ride makes for a perfect introduction to the fun of off-road cycling. An expert Marmalade guide is on hand to help and support you, as you get to grips with the trails and making the most of your bike. E-bikes or manual mountain bikes are all welcome, whether you bring your own or hire from our friends at The Riders Hub.

Ride details

We meet in the Surrey village of Peaslake, where The Riders Hub team are on hand to provide high quality bikes if you’d like to hire one. From here we take a relaxed pace as we make our way up the easy trails of Holmbury and Pitch Hills – each offering rewarding views over the countryside of Surrey and Sussex. On our Winter Warmer, our easy-rolling downhill routes are chosen for their views and relaxation, instead of their technical challenges.

We will call in to Heartwork* – a favourite refreshment stop, where a coffee or hot chocolate will warm us up, served from a rustic barn in a woodland setting.

After some more exploration – all at a pace and level to suit the day’s riders – we return to Peaslake. Lunch in the cosy Hurtwood Inn* is highly recommended next to their log fire.

3 reviews for Surrey Hills Winter Warmer Mountain Bike Ride

  1. Dave Collin

Great to be back out with Marmalade. The Winter Warmer was just right to kick start the year after Christmas. Sean is a great guide and highly recommend this to anyone. Was a chilled pace and easy going. Smiles for miles from everyone on this ride.

  2. Julie

A great ride out today with Rachel, taking in some of the beautiful Surrey hills. The ride was tailored to suit our level with a perfect tea and cake stop off mid way. A really friendly group of people. It’s been great for building my confidence. Will be doing again. Thanks for a great ride out!

  3. Jenny

This was a really enjoyable social ride to take in some beautiful views from the top of Pitch Hill and Holmbury Hill and see the lovely autumnal countryside around the Surrey Hills. Rachel tailored the ride so that the group could push themselves a little bit further, whilst keeping everyone confident and smiling. The group had lots of fun tackling some of the iconic flowing Surrey Hills trails, and thanks to Rachel for showing me another cool trail at the end of the ride. Coffee and cake stop mid-ride and warm fire at the pub after helped to warm us all up on a chilly day out. Thanks so much for a very fun day out with lovely people 🙂
