Clear

New for 2021! Join Marmalade MTB as we will introduce you to the sublime singletrack and classic mountain biking Wales is famous for. Looking to step outside your local riding and or take your experience to the next level? This carefully crafted two day MTB weekend trip will showcase the very best of the world class biking that Wales has on tap!

Day 1 – Singletrack Saturday

Trail centres in Wales are among the best in the world. Afan forest park is one of the oldest and most popular with thousands of mountain bikers making the pilgrimage down the M4 each year. Day 1 is all about finding your flow on as much of the 100 kms of epic singletrack that Festoons the flanks of Afan as you can handle. There is almost unlimited choice of rides available at this trail centre. Our professional British Cycling Level 3 MTB leader who has many years experience on these all-weather trails, will be on hand to ensure you maximmise your Afan experience. Whether that’s section by section advice or just the reassurance that he will be on hand for those remote trail side repairs.

M4 Pilgrimage

If like many mountain bikers you have spent years riding your local trails and for whatever reason, whether it’s a lack of time or the trepidation of riding in bigger country that has meant you have not yet sampled the sheer magic of the famous riding that can be found along the Welsh arm of the M4. Then taking the step beyond your usual biking boundaries with like-minded people and our professionally qualified could not be easier. Check out the scintillating South Wales singletrack from our friends at MB Wales below:

Day 2 – Natural, Raw and Remote Sunday

What a treat we have in store for you on Day 2. After another delicious and hearty breakfast at the Afan Lodge, we will drive the 1.5 hours across the beautiful Welsh landscape to Talybont-un-Usk, which will be our base for Sunday’s big country adventure. The Gap ride in the Brecon Beacons National Park is consistently voted in the top 5 of ‘Must Do Big Mountain Bike Rides in the UK’! It is one of our favourites too and pretty much has everything. Starting from Talybont-un-Usk, we climb gradually with stunning views across the reservoir before crossing the moorland to take on our first rolling descent of the day. Up next is the journey to the famous mountain pass, The Gap’ cuts between the peaks of Fan-y-Big and Pen-y-Fan before topping out at +600m. A well earned lunch stop before the epic reveal of the glacial valley vista. Simply spectacular! All this before the descent that will leave you speechless at the bottom. Want to know more about this natural ride? Read our blog about ‘The Gap’.

Wrapping Up Awesome

The grins of achievement will be from ear to ear as we roll back into Talybont to the amazing village hall Bike Hub. With an eye-popping natural MTB classic under our belts it will be time to wash the bikes and have a shower using the hub facilities. Before we all leave South Wales full of mountain biking memories there will be time for a late pub lunch at one of the best country village pubs in the UK, the New Inn at Bwlch, which is just 5 minutes drive away.
