- A three hour tailored mountain bike ride of the Wiston Estate with one of our professional local guides
- An exquisite two or three-course lunch at Chalk
- Electric or non-electric bike hire as an additional option

RIDE & DINE
Once you have selected and booked your preferred date, time, number of courses and bike hire choices, we will review and fully approve your Ride and Dine by email.
On the day, you will meet your Marmalade guide in the car park of the Chalk restaurant. There will be short introduction and briefing followed by the bike handover if you have rented.
You will then head out on off-road trails with your Marmalade guide for a three-hour guided ride customised to your experience level.
The circular route will return you back in time to change your clothes and freshen up, before we hand you over to the Chalk restaurant team for your two or three course dining experience.
After your meal, all you need to do is pay for your drinks and extra courses
Exploring the Wiston Estate and the South Downs
This area of the National Park, is home to many of the Marmalade team. The dense network of bridleways that spread out from the river Adur at Shoreham and high above Worthing and Steyning make this area a superb location for cross-country (XC) mountain biking and gravel riding.
We climb up onto the South Downs for a ride that includes the prehistoric hill forts of Cissbury Ring, Chanctonbury Ring and Lancing Ring. This loop that we take you on that includes circumnavigation of these ancient settlements, is perfect for any level of off-road cyclist looking to explore and take in this stunning area with its sea views.
Core skills and bike hire
This ride makes for a perfect introduction to the fun of off-road cycling. An expert Marmalade guide is on hand to help and support you, as you get to grips with the trails and making the most of your bike. E-bikes or manual mountain bikes are all welcome, whether you bring your own or hire one using the ‘Extras’ option when you book.

Bike choice
E-bikes or manual mountain bikes are all welcome, whether you bring your own or hire from our local partners.
If you would like to rent a mountain bike, then take a look at what’s available below.
This route is a traditional mountain bike ride. There will be fun bumpy descents, rooty forest trails and wide-open double tracks. So a hardtail or short travel full suspension mountain bike would be perfect. Big travel bikes are welcome – just be prepared for some extra effort.
This ride can be enjoyed on a conventional or electric mountain bike. If this ride is right for your level of experience and fitness, then bring your choice of machine. Marmalade rides have a friendly welcoming atmosphere, and e-bike riders who find themselves first up the hill are always patient and understanding of those relying on human-power alone.
Ensure your bike of choice is maintained and ready to ride, and please pack a spare mech hanger with your usual trail pack spares.

Fantastic cycle ride in the South Downs with Clive – thoroughly recommend and the meal at Chalk was beyond expectations – great day !!

We had a fantastic ride with Claire who was very friendly and clearly knew the area well (including an excellent coffee spot and a secret bird nest!) The pace and route were tailored to be perfect for us as relatively novice but reasonably fit riders. The bike hire was very smooth with them there ready to go when we arrived. There was time to freshen up before the meal at Chalk which was a delicious reward – local produce in a lovely setting with good service. The communication from Sean from booking up to the ride was excellent.

Amazing first e-bike experience. Stunning views of the South Downs on a fantastic clear May morning. Our guide , Sean was excellent as was the food & wine we enjoyed afterwards at Chalk.

A truly memorable experience, the weather was fantastic, the scenery stunning and Seans expertise and friendly guidance ensured that we really got the most out of our 3 hour ride. Upon our return to Chalk we enjoyed a much anticipated lunch that met and surpassed all of our hopes and expectations. All in all a wonderful and memorable day. Thank you.

My husband and I had an amazing time with Sean at Marmalade MTB adventuring through the beautiful South Downs a few weeks ago doing the ‘Ride & Dine’ experience. It was our first time doing proper mountain biking (and many years since even riding a bike), so despite a shaky start in the car park we were soon peddling on our way with confidence! The bikes we hired were great quality and delivered with a smile by local partner Terry – and the ‘e’ bit came in very handy on the last hill of the day! We had a fantastic time and the scenery was just stunning. Even had time for a well deserved coffee en-route. Sean was so knowledgeable about the local area, and we loved his passion for both his job and his ‘backyard’. He was patient and helpful as he guided us through the rolling hills, and after a thrilling 3 hours we were back at the winery where we were able to sit back, relax and debrief on the mornings’ adventures whilst enjoying lunch at Chalk restaurant in the Wiston Estate Winery. All courses were locally sourced, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
We feel lucky to have enjoyed such a wonderful experience and highly recommend anyone to give it a go – be it first timer or experienced rider. Sean and his team are top-notch and we love what they are doing – Looking forwards to booking another experience soon

I got a voucher for the Winston ride and dine as a gift and it was a really excellent day out. Our guide, Clive assessed our ambition and capability really well and took us on a range of ideal trails and bridleways. They also provided hire of an e-bike, which was quick and easy to arrange.
Marmalade MTB also took care of the booking at the winery, so we had a nice easy transition at the of the ride.

What a fantastic experience..1st bit, the food at Chalk was lovely. It was well presented and tasted great in a lovely setting, I will eat there again.
2nd bit..the bike ride..what a fantastic 3hrs. Sean was super helpful in getting our bikes properly setup and ready for the ride..now the ride, has to be one of the most beautiful parts of the country, the South Downs offers so much and Sean was excellent in choosing the routes that gave great views and suited our MTB skill level.
Would highly recommend this event no matter what riding ability you are as you are well looked after. I will definitely be booking another event with Marmalade.
