Surrey Hills Festive MTB Ride or Guided Walk & Lunch
From £48.00 inc. VAT
Our festive ride on the Surrey Hills has been running since 2016 and closes out each year with the perfect fusion of amazing trail riding, our famous fun vibe, fancy dress and the all important three-course Christmas Dinner at the Hurtwood Inn.
Brand new for 2024 is our 3 hour guided walk option for anyone who would love to be involved in the day but doesn’t fancy the biking. This will be lead by Jude Palmer who is a Surrey Hills local and fully qualified mountain leader and expert walking guide.
Choose your ride: a fairly easy route for beginners and lower intermediates, or something a little more energetic for upper intermediates and advanced riders who like Hurtwood’s more challenging trails. The guided walk will be a sociable and informative experience up on Pitch Hill and through Winterfold forest.
After riding and walking, all three groups reunite to enjoy our meal together.
Description
Join us again as we close out yet another year of awesome mountain biking experiences across the South East and UK, with our Christmas rides on the Surrey Hills and all the fun it has become famous for since 2016.
Our Christmas rides and walk on the Surrey Hills – what to expect!
Each year we welcome a mix of new riders and old friends who are veterans of our popular guided rides to join together and create a simply amazing day of laughs and festive fun on the equally famous singletrack of the Surrey Hills.
Guided Walk – Brand New for 2024!
We have teamed up with the Surrey Hills’ very own walking, hiking and cold swimming coach and leader, Jude Palmer, to offer an alternative activity for anyone looking to experience our famous festive event. This could be your partner or a friend who needs some fresh air and time in the beautiful forests of the Surrey Hills.
Weather dependant, we will use our unrivalled knowledge of the best trails to create a sublime ride that will make the most of the conditions and guaranteed to have everyone smiling from ear-to-ear. The route is likely to focus on Holmbury and Pitch Hills and take in a hearty and warming snack at the Peaslake Village Stores.
Festive bling wins prizes
Another tradition of this annual event is the invitation to dress you and your bike up with festive bling and decorations, if you wish, providing it is safe and firmly fixed to your bike! This not only makes for awesome photos, but you will have the chance to win some prizes which will hopefully be donated by our friends across the MTB industry!
Festive lunch included
The Hurtwood Inn with it’s roaring fire and the delicious Christmas lunch will be our venue for the post ride festivities. The Hurtwood team will be there to welcome us to serve our food and the fine local ale or seasonal soft drink or two.
Accommodation
Why not make a weekend of it and stay a night or two with our friends at the Hurtwood Inn in one of their stylish and cosy rooms. This base in the quintessential village of Peaslake is oozing with rural charm and will be the perfect base for two day treat.
The area and the trails
The lush woodland that smothers these green sandstone hills is festooned with ancient bridleways and trails that have become synonymous with the Surrey Hills. This ride will perfectly link together the flowing and whoop inducing singletrack of Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill with the classics such as Yogurt Pots, Telegraph Row, Barry Knows Best, Supernova, Graveyard and many many more. The gritty and sandy nature of this area results in the trails draining well and handling the winter conditions much better than other areas. This is another reason why our festive MTB guided ride should not be missed and has been enjoyed by many shredders each year.
MTB bike hire
Visiting family and friends without your bike? Or simply you want to give this ride a go, but do not own a mountain bike? Then simply book your bike/s direct from our friends at The Riders Hub Peaslake below:
(please note, Marmalade MTB are not responsible for the provision of these bikes. By using the system below you are booking direct with The Riders Hub Peaslake)
Bike choice
E-bikes or manual mountain bikes are all welcome, whether you bring your own or hire from our friends at The Riders Hub.
This route is a traditional mountain bike ride. There will be fun bumpy descents, rooty forest trails and wide-open double tracks. So a hardtail or short travel full suspension mountain bike would be perfect. Big travel bikes are welcome – just be prepared for some extra effort.
This ride can be enjoyed on a conventional or electric mountain bike. If this ride is right for your level of experience and fitness, then bring your choice of machine. Marmalade rides have a friendly welcoming atmosphere, and e-bike riders who find themselves first up the hill are always patient and understanding of those relying on human-power alone.
Ensure your bike of choice is maintained and ready to ride, and please pack a spare mech hanger with your usual trail pack spares.

Another great ride in the Surrey Hills led by Andy and Sean.
Christmas outfits, Christmas cheer and whoops of delight as we rode down sparkly festive trails. “ I should Co Co “ was a single track descent in a winter wonderland. Riding with Marmalade is always a chance to meet up with friends met at previous previous rides and just delight in being on our bikes together.
Already planning the decorations for next year!
Dear Father Shred thank you, and Happy Christmas!
Zoe Holland –
As a newbie to mountain biking I can honestly say that the Marmalade crew are the most patient and supportive guides you could possibly ask for. Clive made sure our group were clued up and prepared for every bump and dip on the ups and downs boosting my confidence as the day progressed. The Festive Ride was such welcoming, wholesome fun I’ll definitely be coming back for more in 2023!
Dave Collin –
Yet another fantastic end to the Marmalade year. Everyone was very festive with the winter wonderland effect that Surrey Hill gave us. The coaching as always was second to none with a mixed bag of skill levels all catered for.
This was a very chilled fun ride with lots of laughs and giggles.
Great meeting new people along with meeting people from previous rides.
Sean and the Marmalade family continue to make mtb group riding a much loved thing.
Thanks to all involved
See you in 2023.
Steve Brooker –
So, the final ride of 2022 with the Marmalade ‘family’. The ride was, as always, excellently guided through the ‘ups & downs’ of The Surrey Hills. The frozen forest and ice crystals added some magic to what was a great day out. There is no doubt that Sean and his accomplices have hit the business just right ensuring that us ‘family’ members are loved and cared for at every point along the way. We all ride with confidence in the knowledge that Sean’s team know their stuff providing guidance and surety all the way from the talk at the start to the fine Christmas Lunch at the end. The Tiramasu was to die for! I now have time to book for 2023 and frankly, I cannot wait! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
nigelpigden –

Another Christmas Cracker of a festive ride with the Marmalade team. I think this is my fourth festive ride in a row with Marmalade and I’m sure it won’t be my last. It’s always a great day out, with lots of laughs and smiles. Merry Christmas everybody.
Jeff Grimes –
Another fab day out with Sean and the Marmalade gang. On a wet, muddy, gritty day got to discover a host of new routes with a great bunch of people rounded off by a superb meal in the Hurtwood Inn. Lovely way to start Christmas.
Dave Collin –
Great day out with guide Paul in Surrey Hills. Early Crimbo pezzie from my wife. Loved every minute of it including all the mud and grit. Big smiles from everyone.
Thanks Marmalade, can’t wait until next year.
Dave Collin –
Best group ride I have taken part in. First time on Surrey Hills so was not sure what expect. Paul was a fantastic guide and despite all the mud, water and grit the day was the perfect way to finish the year. Thanks to all the Marmalade staff. Can’t wait till next year.

A great day out with a very friendly bunch. Sean was a great guide and host as he always is. He always allows people to go at their pace and never pushes people beyond their limits. The weather was pretty dreadful but everybody was smiling and enjoying themselves. The giant post ride dinner at the Royal Oak was delicious. I highly recommend this ride and will be booking again.
Sue Ferguson –
What a muddy, gritty, fun festive Christmas ride, great guiding by Sean, always making us welcome when shredding those Christmas trails! Some ups and fantastic downs – followed by a very welcome socially distanced meal at the Royal Oak. Sue
